I love a good book. I love a strong story where I feel connected with the characters and intrigued by the story. That’s why I generally stick with fiction reads but every now and then a business book or non-fiction creep in. My goal is to read two books each month and to wrap up this year having read at least twenty-five books. Aggressive goal? Maybe - but I’m committed to it!
This month I will be reading The Soulmate Equation by Christina Lauren, Malibu Rising by Taylor Jenkins Reid, and Never Split the Difference by Chris Voss with Tahl Raz. One recommended by my daughter, another for my book club, and the third was sent to me by my manager (everyone in the firm received it). I’ve included a brief synopsis of each book below and a link (not an affiliate) to Amazon if you’re interested in reading the book as well.
What’s on your booklist this summer?
The Soulmate Equation by Christina Lauren
My teen daughter and I were walking through Barnes & Noble and she recommended The Soulmate Equation to me. It’s about a single mom that is a data and stats wizard who isn’t excited about going back into the dating world. But then she hears about GeneticAlly, a DNA-based matchmaking company that’s predicted to change dating forever. She joins and is matched with the founder of the app, whom she already knows and she doesn’t want to date. GeneticAlly offers her compensation for getting to know him better and the story follows what happens.
Malibu Rising by Taylor Jenkins Reid
This is the July book club selection for my neighborhood book club and I’m excited to dive in. Malibu Rising focuses on an annual end-of-the-summer party in 1983 thrown by four famous siblings (each with their own story). By midnight the party is completely out of control and by morning, the mansion will have gone up in flames. But before the fire starts, the party takes place and all of the family secrets come to the surface.
If you’re local to me, our county library is hosting a virtual book club with Taylor Jenkins Reid on Wednesday, July 14th at 6:00 pm. You can register to attend here.
Never Split the Difference, by Chris Voss with Tahl Raz
The managing partner at our firm sent Never Split the Difference to everyone on the team and I'm looking forward to this book. This book is written by a former FBI top hostage negotiator and covers his field-tested tools for talking “anyone into (or out of) just about anything. This may be particularly useful as you head into salary negotiations for that amazing new job or after you’ve found the perfect house in this hot, hot, hot housing market.
